Futon Buying Guide
Futons are originally from Japan. They are often placed on a adjustable frame for use as a bed or a couch. They are usually filled with foam and batting for softness. There are several layers resembling a traditional mattress in size. Western-style futons are a frugal alternative to a bed or couch, and are often sold in sets that include the mattress and frame. Most people in the United States think of a futon as the frame, even though the mattress comes with the frame.
The frames can be wooden or metal. Futons normally feature a removeable and replaceable cover, giving the buyer more choices in their decorating scheme.
Futons are popular with people just starting out. The futon can be used as a couch during the day. When it’s time for bed, the futon can be laid down to make a full size bed. A lot of couples with small childred place the futons at the foot of their bed and let their childred sleep there. It doesn’t take up much room, but gives the parents comfort in knowing their children are close by.
